Why Shouldn’t Single Mums Celebrate Father’s Day Too? (Especially When They Are The Father Figure!)

Father’s Day was pretty crap, as I already felt crappy then the day ended with poor little Alfie being sick, meaning our celebrations were cut very short!

Although this sucked, we tried to make the best of it, but upon reflection there was one BIG THING that really pissed me off yesterday (and it wasn’t anything to do with our experience of Father’s Day!)

IT WAS IN FACT ONE POST ON FACEBOOK!

A women had shared a meme in a group saying happy Father’s Day to all the single mums who care for their children without the support of a dad…

….AND THIS CREATED UPROAR!

MEN HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE WHERE JUMPING ON THE POST SAYING…

“HOW DARE YOU POST THIS!”

“IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO!”

“IT WAS THE MOTHER’S CHOICE IN PARTNER!”

AND “YOU WOULDN’T SEE THIS POSTED ON MOTHER’S DAY!”

AND ABOVE ALL BEING VERY NASTY TO THE WOMAN WHO POSTED IT.

Now, the woman wasn’t taking anything away from the dad’s celebrations, she was just pointing out that many single mums do the job of a dad too, so they should be celebrated!!

Now here are the FACTS – in the UK:

There are around 1.8 million single parents – they make up nearly a quarter of families with dependent children…

And around 90 per cent of single parents are WOMEN.

This means, to all the men that were having a massive moan about the post, in response to your witty comments…

“HOW DARE YOU POST THIS!”

Well, she dared because it’s true! Many women are both mum and dad to their kids as the dad isn’t around, so why shouldn’t they get recognised???

“IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO!”

Yes, it does, but usually the dad is the one that bails when things go pear-shaped, meaning that the mum is the one left to care for the kids!

When a baby is born usually the mum is the one expected to give up her career and care for the baby with no discussion at all – it is automatically assumed that the women will take on the role of primary carer for the child (regardless of whether she wants to or not!)

“IT WAS THE MOTHER’S CHOICE IN PARTNER!”

Hold on a second, so you are blaming the reason why the mum is now a single parent on her falling for an A-hole who left her with their kids?!

So, if the dad has left due to being abusive, cheating, or just being a general waste of space, this is still the mother’s fault because she ‘chose’ to fall in love with this man and have her children with him???

AND “YOU WOULDN’T SEE THIS POSTED ON MOTHER’S DAY!”

No you wouldn’t, because from the FACTS above only 10% of single parents who have sole responsibility of dependant children in the UK are MEN, because primary it is left to the woman to pick up the pieces and care for the children (that they both made when they TANGO’ED!!) after the dad has left.

And the dad either doesn’t see the kids at all, or has an occasional caring role where he ‘looks after’ them (aka ‘babysits’ them) every other weekend!!

SO, I FULLY SUPPORT ALL THE SINGLE MUMS OUT THERE WHO ARE ALSO THE DADS TO THEIR CHILDREN…

I HOPE YOU HAD AN AWESOME (LACK OF FATHER)’S DAY!

P.s. And to all the men who had a problem with this post – I put this in the comments to tell them to shove their opinions up their arses!!!

The cover image of this blog is what a decent dad celebrating Father’s Day looks like (before Alfie started throwing up on him!!)
